Tokyo Star is a film about the creation of ”Idorus” in Japan.
In the main focus stand the portraits of 6 teenagers living in Tokyo,
who together document the classic stations of a pop star or idol: apprenticeship,
debut and career.
The film shows the training skills of Japanese dancing schools, gives
insight view in training courses, auditions, debuts, concerts. Narrates
of dreams, expectations and the fear of the protagonists on the one hand
and about the strategies of the agents and producers on the other. What
role model, which identity, which artificial images and which kind of
self-conception do these ”Idorus” have? What will remain in
the end? A product or a personality?
