Born in Dresden Ricarda Roggan is now living in her (place of study) Leipzig. Here she finished her photography studies at the Hochschule fuer Grafik und Buchkunst in 2004, being master student of Timm Rautert.
Her examination of found sites and spaces is proceeded via photography. Before photographical realization Ricarda Roggan makes some methodical preparations by isolating the spaces from external influences, which could be an indicator for dimensions like time, memory and imagination. In contrast to the authenticity of the come across situation she is setting artificial modification. The intervention of the artist leads to clarification and raise of the spaces.
Windows are not existent in her work; Ricarda Roggan is mostly working completely without natural daylight and only with exactly adjusted artificial light sources. The mood, created by the elimination of outer influences, is found in all works as connecting element.
In the current series the inoperability of the emptied spaces is carried to extremes by the closure of all holes. Every possible perspective is obstructed by the plane wall surfaces, which reject the viewer but also provide the possibility to function as a projection screen – without giving any resort.
„SCHACHT“ 1 – 10 is also presenting in its formal simplicity and the emphasized present of the brickwork the sculptural aspect of her work in two-dimensional image.
