In the 1920s and
1930s, when there was a similar exhibition-boom as these days, Walter
Benjamin and Sigfried Giedion have thought about their fascination. As
a main reason for that, they figured the hybrid and synaesthetic features
of the exhibitions and their specific ephemere architecture.
Since the mid 1990s Maix Mayer has been working on test arrangements regarding
the notions of art/architecture and film/architecture.
Together with the HTWK Leipzig, study course "architecture",
a setting (exhibitions-architecture) for Maix Maier’s media-work
"double" is being created. Behind this transformation stands
the question: is the exhibitions-architecture able to match a double function
or will the result be a "double exhibition".
Maix Maier describes his creative strategy for "double" with
the following quotation by Jean-Luc Godard:
"To talk different of these and those things, of things everybody
is talking about"
In the framework of the exhibition a film-evening will take place, which
focuses on the different role of the architect as a character in "eastern-German"
and "western-European" film productions. Thereby the opposed
concepts of individuality and liability are put in front.
